Update on HPA plant's detailed design

21 Sep 2016

After last month’s news on the funding for our proposed high purity alumina (HPA) project, we’re excited by additional news about the ongoing detailed design.

Our engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, German engineering group M+W Group is well advanced on the detailed design and engineering work for the proposed Malaysian HPA plant.

The detailed design is the final planning phase for the HPA plant before the actual beginning of construction. It involves the complete definition of every aspect of the plant including detailed diagrams and drawings for construction, civil works, instrumentation, control system, electrical facilities, management of suppliers, schedule of activities, costs, procurement of equipment and management of environmental impacts.

Once the detailed design and engineering work is completed – and subject to funding –M+W Group and Altech will be in a position to order the capital items needed and finalise contractual arrangements with the various suppliers and sub-contractors who will work on the plant. Some capital items require long lead times to order and build.

We expect the detailed design phase to continue until first quarter of 2017. This work will overlap with the expected commencement of construction, which remains subject to the finalisation of project financing.
